"About a third of our respondents (30%) report they typically buy fresh brewed coffee from a coffee shop or restaurant.

July 21, 2009 MarketWatch Article: Starbucks' Earnings Announcement

"Starbucks Tops Targets as Store Traffic Improves"

"Starbucks reported Tuesday afternoon that it swung to a fiscal third-quarter profit from a year-earlier loss, and showed that its store traffic is improving even as the recession drags on.

"Sales at stores open one year – an industry metric known as same-store-sales – fell 5% during the quarter, compared with an 8% decline for the quarter ended March 29."

Immediately after the announcement Starbucks rose nearly 20% – representing a classic example of ChangeWave Research uncovering the trend weeks ahead of the Street.
