StreetSmarts, a weekly interview program hosted by www.onn.tv, interviewed Bryan Perry, who runs the ChangeWave Tactical Trader service, in a special segment found only on The Options News Network.
Bryan Perry runs the ChangeWave Tactical Trader service where he advises subscribers on his proprietary swing-trading methodology, using short-term calls and puts to capture directional movements in stocks. Kevin Cook discovered that Perry's method is not based on mere technical/charting criteria like many swing trading strategies.
Perry's unique focus is on sector rotation, which reduces both the risks of choosing individual stocks and that of investing in sectors whose trend is unclear. Perry does this by analyzing the trading volume and corresponding "money flow" from one sector to the next, particularly in the nine SPDR Select Sector ETFs. Then, instead of investing in the entire sector through the ETF, or picking one stock within a currently bullish sector, he will look for 4 or 5 stocks that have beaten EPS estimates and raised guidance in the previous quarter.
Perry believes this "cherry-picking" approach is the best way to capture the largest overall movement in the best sectors, especially when options are used to increase the leverage and potential return. And he says that this a necessary approach in a bear market, where short-term rallies might provide only a week or two of quick gains before the down-trend resumes.
