Scientists Report Breakthrough In Battle Against Deadly 'Superbug'

(MEDICAL CHANGEQUAKE) -- Scientists looking for a cure for a fast-spreading "superbug" -- that attacks the lungs of healthy young people with a deadly toxin that kills within 72 hours -- believe they've unlocked its secrets, according to a report published in the journal Science.

PVL-MRSA is a virulent and highly resistant strain of the relatively common Staphylococcus aureus bacteria -- the staph infection commonly found in hospitals and locker rooms. Already responsible for two recent deaths in Britain, experts there and in the United States fear they are seeing the early stages in both countries of what may already be the largest bacterial epidemic in the world.

Skype Founders Unveil Details Of TV Streaming Project

(TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGEQUAKE) -- The co-founders of the Internet telephone service Skype unveiled the details of a new Internet-based television service called Joost. The new project combines aspects of file-sharing software and regular broadcast television. AT&T 'Unifies' Wireless, Wireline Plans

(CORPORATE CHANGEQUAKE) -- AT&T Inc. released a new offer that gives unlimited free minutes to both wireless and wireline phone customers, calling it the AT&T Unity plan. Subscribers will be able to call more than 100 million AT&T wireless and wireline phone numbers without incurring any additional fees or using any of their wireless minutes.

The AT&T Unity plan is the first major converged product offering since AT&T Inc.'s buyout of BellSouth Corp. and subsequent consolidation of Cingular Wireless under one owner.
